CINCINNATI — 1. Let’s start with the bad. Joe Burrow. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. Three interceptions on three straight passes is just bad.
2. It wasn’t just the three interceptions. Burrow was making questionable decisions all game. Trying to make throws into tight windows; that wasn’t going to happen against the Bears secondary today.
3. Tackling. Several key missed tackles today, most notably the last one by defensive end Trey Hendrickson that would have resulted in a third down sack giving the Bengals the ball back with a chance to tie or win the game.
4. That’s what was good about today’s game. For as bad as the Bengals played, they were still in position in the closing minutes to potentially win the game. The offense executed quick scoring drives, and the linebacker Logan Wilson’s interception gave them an opportunity for a second touchdown to further cut into the deficit which they did.
5. The defense played reasonably well today. Three sacks and six-and-a-half tackles for a loss. Four passes defended and six quarterback hits. Those are all good stats.
6. So much for thinking the Bengals offensive line was improved. It’s not. Four sacks today to make it nine allowed through the first two games. That has to change and change next Sunday… at Pittsburgh.
7. Two things I’m hoping for next Sunday at Pittsburgh: 1. A Bengals win. 2. Joe Burrow doesn’t get hurt.
